Not only the town hall and the many historic buildings make Oudenaarde unique, but also the town park and the attention for green spaces and small landscape elements.
As far as you can see the banks of the Scheldt are lined with geraniums. Flowerbeds, multicoloured flower baskets and flower towers decorate the entrances and the centre of the town.
Oudenaarde also revalues valuable scenic areas, such as the Oude Vesten (Old Ramparts) and invests in the development of an educational woodland, the Speibos.
The Liedts park
The Liedts park consists of a castle and a park from the 19th century at about 200 m from the town hall. It was a gift from baron C.Liedts to the city of Oudenaarde. The Liedts family had the magnificent English gardens laid out on the land that became free after Vauban’s fortifications had been pulled down. Beautiful tree clusters, lawns and a pond invite the walker. The castle is an example of neo-Renaissance.

The Vesten (Ramparts)
Not much is left of Vauban’s ramparts in Oudenaarde. But the area evolved into an important green zone and has a great historic and natural value. It is one of the green lungs of the town.
